August's Inspiration - Salvador Dali!

Oh yes, he holds a special place in my heart...let me tell you why! When I was dating my DH before we were married we went for a vacation in Florida and he had to take me to Salvador Dali's museum. I will admit that art and museums were not really my thing at the time BUT when I got in there, wow...I was just amazed and impressed and just couldn't get enough of the beautiful paintings. Granted they were "surreal" and different but I was still so enthralled with what I was looking at.

So folks, I give you the Hallucinogenic Toreador as our work of inspiration for the month of August! I am not going to tell you which colours caught my eye in the painting as there's a few but I am pleased with how it all turned out and I hope you are too! Way to go to the two of you who guessed who it'd be too! :)

I've always loved art for as long as I can remember (if I knew I could make a career out of it I'd go back to school as an art history major), but I was never into classical art. I wanted to look at something that reminds me of dreams, and makes you think... my favorite periods being dadaism and surrealism. I'm so excited that the first colorway is inspired by one of my favorite artists. The colors are fantastic, no matter what you pull from that piece the yarn will be gorgeous!

I was getting excited last week thinking this must be the first theme, too! I actually have a magnet of that painting - my husband got it at the Dali museum in Tampa. I'm hoping to visit the museum myself in September. Yay! So many colors in that one...

Dali is one of my husband's favorites and when his art was on display in Philadelphia two years ago, we went to see it. I was amazed and awestruck by his genius and did not know that he was classically trained as an architect. He used color and images in a way that stuck in your head for a long time. Almost like the blue in a Maxfield Parrish.

YEAH!!! I love Dali - from the first time I found "something" in one of his paintings I was fascinated- I had to learn more and can looks at his work for hours - in fact when I spent the summer in Italy - way back in 95, I spent hours at a showing of his works I love the cylinders- something you just have to experience in person.... Wonderful selection!
