Pattern Trouble

Has anybody tried the Kaibashira sock pattern? I really like the way it looks but I am having a terrible time with it. I have tried 4 times to start the socks. Each time I finish row 2 I am about 10 stitches short. I think I am following the directions but after 4 attempts I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong. I am not good enough to just look at a pattern and figure out if something is wrong. I am assuming it is my mistake. I'd be interested in whatever anyone else has to report.

Hi Donne Lee...I haven't tried it but let me contact Chrissy, the pattern designer - I've worked with her on a few things (in fact, I'm getting some of her other patterns!) and she probably won't mind dropping by to give hints/suggestions. Sorry for the frustration - hopefully it's an easy fix.

Hmmm...let's see if I can help. I double-checked the math, and the numbers look okay. Another way to think of it is that there will be 17 pattern repeats in the cuff (17 little loopies). When you start round 1, you'll be working over 11 sts in each repeat and reducing that 11 down to 5 sts (the first k2, then the stitch that gets the 8 sts passed over it, and the double YO which ends up in-between the k2 and the stitch with all the others passed over it). You should have 85 loops on your needle after Rnd 1. Then, you take each of those 17 groups of 5 and decrease them down to groups of 4 in Rnd 2.

Make sure when you're working Rnd 1 that at the end of each repeat when it says "knit the first st on left needle again" that you're knitting the stitch that you passed the 8 sts over. You don't want to be knitting a fresh stitch because that will throw you off. Also, on Rnd 2, make sure that you're making two stitches in each of the double yarn-overs.

I hope that helps - it's hard to say exactly where you're losing the stitches when you're not sitting next to me! But maybe this will at least get you pointed in the right direction - feel free to ask for further clarification if you need it.

Thanks so much Chrissy and I hope that helps Donna Lee! :)

I did all the things you suggested, counted the loops and made sure to yo twice and knit in that same stitch so I am not sure where my mistake is. I am going to try again but I don't want to ruin my beautiful starry night!
